本賽季英超聯賽即將結束 ，官方各獎項的曼城評選也已經開始 。本周四英格蘭足球記者協會（FWA）宣布 ，中卫最佳將曼城後衛魯本-迪亞斯評為本賽季的迪亚英超最佳球員 。
現年24歲的斯当赛季葡萄牙中衛魯本-迪亞斯在去年9月從本菲卡轉會加盟曼城 ，轉會費6500萬英鎊 。英超本賽季迪亞斯為曼城出場51次 ，官方其中在英超出場31次 ，曼城作為主力幫助曼城奪得了英超冠軍和英格蘭聯賽杯冠軍，中卫最佳並且殺進了歐冠決賽 。迪亚本賽季曼城在37輪英超聯賽隻丟了32球 ，斯当赛季是英超英超防守最好的球隊 。
經過英格蘭足球記者協會（FWA）的官方近700名成員投票 ，迪亞斯最終戰勝了凱恩和德布勞內 ，曼城獲得本賽季FWA英超最佳球員 。中卫最佳迪亞斯是1989年的利物浦右後衛史蒂夫-尼科爾之後 ，又一個獲此殊榮的後衛球員 。同時迪亞斯還是英超史上第三位在加盟英超首個賽季就當選為FWA賽季最佳的球員 ，之前的兩人分別是克林斯曼（1995年）和佐拉（1997年）。
英格蘭足球記者協會主席卡利-布朗表示 ：“迪亞斯在加盟曼城時才23歲 ，但他迅速成為人們關注的焦點 ，他的堅毅堅韌 、始終追求完美 、以及幾乎超人的閱讀比賽和預判的能力 ，讓大家忽視了他的年齡 。此外，這些雖然值得稱讚 ，但還不足以讓一名球員獲得FWA賽季最佳球員 。我們的創始人之一查爾斯-布坎曾說過 ，這個獎項是表彰那些‘言傳身教’的榜樣球員 。”
