國足在大年初一慘敗給了越南 ，大年徹底無緣世界杯，初国也創造了恥辱紀錄。足惨正月初二 ，南徐也是根宝老帥徐根寶的78歲生日 ，據上海媒體《東方體育日報》報道 ，岁生2月2日當天 ，日输徐根寶眾弟子前往崇明為恩師過生日 ，球快徐根寶表示 ，大年國足的初国輸球也令他的生日不快樂 。
在年前國足0比2輸給日本隊以後 ，足惨昨天晚上國足又是南徐1比3慘敗給了越南隊 ，年關之際連續輸球真的根宝是讓中國球迷非常氣憤 ，給廣大球迷添了堵 。岁生而且相比於輸給日本隊，日输大年初一這場比賽更加讓國足球迷氣憤 。
報道中稱 ，遇上大年初一國足輸球 ，徐指導坦言快樂不起來 ，“剛才年維泗教練打電話來了 ，他跟我說生日快樂 。國家隊昨天輸球了 ，說快樂足球，你說今天能快樂嗎 ？輸球肯定不快樂 。”隨後 ，徐根寶笑著說 ，“還大年初一 ，虎年頭一天輸球 。”眾人也露出了無奈的笑容 。
曾經的甲A冠軍教頭 、國足主帥徐根寶現年79歲 ，教練生涯中後期一直致力於青訓工作。他在2000年創辦的根寶足球基地，已經為中國足球輸送了許多人才 。昨天國足對陣越南的首發陣容中 ，出自根寶基地的就有5人 ，分別是顏駿淩 、張琳芃 、朱辰傑 、王燊超 、武磊 。
在國足慘敗越南後 ，很多業內人士想到了徐根寶，前央視名嘴劉建宏怒斥中國足協 ，直言打臉，並呼籲徐根寶出任中國足協的青訓總監，讓他去把全國的青訓工作抓起來 。媒體人姬宇陽也表示 ，此時此刻，中國足球需要更多的徐根寶指導 。看到78歲的徐指導過生日也被添堵，網友們紛紛表示 ，“徐導 ，新年快樂 ！ ！ ！”“一直關注著中國男足的徐根寶”“根寶這種心智如果一直被貫徹下來 ，中國足球不至於此。
