1月22日下午，日本男足公布了12強賽對陣中國隊和沙特的中国战大名單 ，日本主帥森保一隨後接受了采訪 ，队换的球队中他表示中國隊在換帥後成為了一支全新的全新球隊 ，所以1月27日的艰难中日之戰將會很艱難。
在日本隊最新公布的森保帅后大名單中有17名旅歐球員 ，其中7人效力於五大聯賽球隊 ，中国战效力於日本國內聯賽的队换的球队中球員占比很小 ，對此森保一表示 ：“在這次集訓中，全新我確信國內聯賽球員有足夠實力進入到國家隊 ，艰难但大名單的森保帅后容量是固定的 ，雖然本期大名單沒有選擇這些國內聯賽球員，中国战但我也強烈地感覺到他們是队换的球队中充滿戰鬥力的一群人 。通過這次集訓 ，全新我希望這些入選國家隊的艰难球員能夠獲得成長 ，帶著自己的啟發和經驗回歸球隊 ，給各自所在的聯賽帶來進步 。”
隨後森保一表示目前的大名單是現階段狀態最好的球員 ，“從比賽狀態來看 ，我也認為留洋球員的更好，因為他們冬歇期結束後踢了一些正式比賽 。被我征召的國內聯賽球員之間 ，確實配合很不錯 ，但是我還是基於比賽狀態來選人的 。”
接下來 ，日本隊將在12強賽中對陣中國隊和沙特隊 ，談到兩個對手，森保一表示：“中國隊因為更換了主教練 ，重新選拔了球員 ，成為了一支全新的球隊。我完全不了解他們的戰術 ，相關信息也很少 ，我認為將會是一場非常艱難的比賽 。而沙特隊踢的非常有侵略性 ，無論進攻還是防守都很積極 。”最後 ，森保一表示，“我們會在這兩場比賽之前對他們詳細分析，做好萬全準備以便在比賽中擊敗對方。”
