《每日鏡報》還指出 ，近期馬奎爾在曼聯內部的支持率正在降低。不過有趣的是 ，賽季初C羅曾堅定支持馬奎爾當隊長 ，並要求年輕球員們也支持馬奎爾 。但現在主教練朗尼克要求C羅指導年輕人 ，這讓馬奎爾位置變得尷尬 。朗尼克是隊長 ，但卻為了球隊更衣室和諧而不得不聽從C羅的意見 。
相似的一幕，在十幾年前就曾上演過 。在穆裏尼奧執教皇馬時 ，他曾經想要剝奪卡西利亞斯的隊長袖標 ，並且讓C羅擔任皇馬隊長。當時卡西就拒絕讓出隊長袖標，球隊高層和更衣室也都支持卡西繼續當隊長 。最終穆裏尼奧換隊長失敗 ，但他在離開皇馬前把卡西打為內鬼，這直接影響了卡西隨後的職業生涯。
