文章透露 ，获欢印度尼西亞曾參加了1938年的越媒越南亚足世界杯 ，但當時他們並不用參加資格賽 。而泰國隊曾經在2002年世界杯和2018年世界杯預選賽中闖入最後階段 ，但是都在小組中排名墊底，並沒有贏得過一場勝利 ，他們在世預賽最後階段一共踢了18場比賽 ，取得了6平12負的成績 。
《vnexpress》還表示 ，這場勝利不僅是越南隊12強賽的首勝 ，更是越南隊在與中國隊交手戰績中 ，第一次獲得勝利 ，之前的交手全部告負 。文章稱 ，這場勝利雖然並不能使球隊擺脫小組墊底的局麵 ，但是可以讓球迷們期待下一場對陣阿曼 ，球隊能否拿到12強賽第二場勝利 。
