卡納瓦羅在2014年11月首次執教廣州隊 ，执教郑智组隨後在2015年6月下課 ，备受其間22場比賽執教成績為11勝6平5負 。诟病卡納瓦羅後來執教過利雅得勝利和天津天海；2017年11月重執廣州隊教鞭並一直帶隊至今 ，或建其間126場比賽執教成績為79勝23平24負 。教练
2019年 ，粤媒卡納瓦羅曾短暫代理國家隊主帥 ，卡纳隨後以專心廣州隊事務為由而放棄了國足主帥一職 。瓦罗

卡納瓦羅與廣州隊的合同原本在2022年年底到期 ，他原計劃於9月23日返回廣州 ，將本賽季的餘下8輪中超爭冠賽事打完 ，但最終仍與俱樂部提前和平分手。
廣州隊目前最有可能由隊長兼教練的鄭智出任執行主教練 ，帶隊參加足協杯和剩餘的中超比賽 。鄭智或會臨時組建一個教練班子 ，率隊度過困難時期。
