北京時間7月12日，欧足據西班牙《阿斯報》報道，联计2020歐洲杯剛剛結束 ，划欧歐足聯卻已經醞釀對歐洲杯進行改製 ，洲杯至队组而主席切費林的扩军計劃就是擴軍 ，將現有的防止24隊擴軍至32隊 ，以防止像今年德法葡組成死亡之組的出现情況發生 。

2016年法國歐洲杯 ，出现歐足聯就完成了擴軍計劃 ，由16隊參加擴軍至24隊參加 ，而帶來的結果 ，就是小組第三也有可能出現在十六強淘汰賽中 。
