When Hulu's adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel Normal People dropped last month, its sex scenes were undeniably arousing. The Cut's advice, for example, was to watch the series with a vibrator. The sensuality of the scenes weren't a mistake, either: The show had an on-set intimacy coordinator to choreograph moves.
But it's not just (lonely, horny) viewers that took note of Normal People's eroticism. A 22-minute compilation of the show's sex scenes popped up on Pornhub, Varietyreports. While it's since been removed, it's been distributed on other sites.
Normal People's executive producer Ed Guiney expressed his disappointment to Variety, saying, "We're hugely disappointed that excerpts from the series of Normal People have been used in this way."
Guiney continued, "It’s both a violation of copyright and more importantly, it’s deeply disrespectful to the actors involved and to the wider creative team. We have taken appropriate steps to require that the content be removed from the platform with immediate effect."
In a statement to Variety, Pornhub's vice president Corey Price said, "Pornhub is fully compliant with the law. We respect all copyright requests and as soon as we become aware of the existence of these types of videos on our site, we have them removed."
Pirated sex scenes on Pornhub and other tube sites aren't a new problem. Search for a show that often depicts sex (Game of Thrones is one example) and you'll likely find what you're looking for. But there's something particularly jarring about watching mumblecore-esque passionate sex of a drawn out friends-with-benefits arrangement alongside videos of hardcore anal and orgies.
As it turns out, though, you don't have to go to tube sites to watch hot sex. You just have to go on Hulu.
