梅西此前在接受采訪時也承認 ，自己的確收到了不少球隊的報價 ，而這其中或許就包括馬競 。西班牙媒體《阿斯報》最新消息稱 ，西蒙尼曾經問過蘇亞雷斯 ，是否有可能將梅西招致麾下 。消息稱 ，西蒙尼確認曾經試圖將梅西帶至萬達大都會球場 ：“我沒有給梅西打電話 ，但我確實打過電話給蘇亞雷斯 ，問他梅西過得怎麽樣 ，是不是渴望繼續留在巴塞羅那 ，或者說梅西加盟馬競的可能性有多大 。”值得一提的是 ，蘇亞雷斯和梅西的摯友 ，兩人在效力巴塞羅那時期建立了身後的友誼 ，至今仍是彼此為知己。
