北京時間4月17日，據西班牙媒體《馬卡報》報道稱 ，续约巴薩主席拉波爾塔近日接受采訪時被問到了梅西的稳拉續約事宜 ，盡管拉波爾塔沒有透露太多的有关細節 ，但是进展他表示梅西的續約談判進展順利 。
作為俱樂部新主席的顺利拉波爾塔，他上任後的梅西首要任務毫無疑問就是說服梅西完成續約 。梅西的续约合同將於今年6月30日到期 ，盡管雙方還沒有就梅西的稳拉未來達成一致 ，但是有关拉波爾塔對談判的進展表示滿意。
拉波爾塔在周五接受西班牙電視台LaSexta采訪時 ，进展被問到關於梅西的顺利續約事宜 ，盡管拉波爾塔沒有透露太多細節 ，梅西但是续约拉波爾塔表示 ：“一切（與梅西續約有關的）都進展順利 。”
然而 ，稳拉另外幾家西班牙媒體，比如塞爾電台 、科貝電台均援引梅西方麵的消息稱 ，梅西並沒有收到來自巴薩方麵任何人發出的正式續約的邀請。據報道稱 ，拉波爾塔需要先掌握好巴薩目前的財政狀況 ，才能采取下一步行動 。
但是梅西和拉波爾塔之間保持著良好的關係 ，這是雙方續約談判的基礎 ，據多家西班牙媒體表示 ，梅西在賽季結束前不會做任何決定 ，目前他隻專注於比賽 。
