北京時間5月1日 ，西班牙媒體《馬卡報》刊出一條讓中國球迷震驚的武磊消息 ，這家媒體表示 ，回国海港本周末西班牙人隊與馬拉加隊的短期比賽大概率會成為武磊旅歐生涯的最後一戰 。武磊非常渴望為國出力，看强但是赛结在目前的疫情防控條例下 ，繼續留在西班牙踢球會影響他踢亞洲區40強賽 ，国内果因此武磊非常有可能就此選擇回到上海海港踢中超 。武磊

《足球報》記者李璿則表示 ：“4月26日，武磊本報就曾頭版頭條報道武磊回國馳援國足 ，回国海港事實上是麵臨去留的抉擇 。
文中寫道 ：對於武磊而言 ，去留就將是非常關鍵的選擇 。即將過去的賽季 ，他的市場身價也從巔峰期的1000萬歐元下降到400萬歐元，新賽季開始前這個數字還有可能進一步下降。去年武磊選擇與西班牙人續約 ，合同到2024年夏到期，但目前看來他要在莫雷諾治下重獲信任難度極大 。
而且如果中國隊順利進入12強賽 ，12強賽將在今年9月到明年3月的5個國際比賽日進行 。鑒於目前國際疫情形勢的嚴峻，武磊若回到西班牙踢球 ，屆時可能很難如期歸隊 ，西班牙人完全能以國際足聯相關規定拒絕放人 。而如果武磊像本賽季在西乙一樣被邊緣化 ，即便俱樂部早早開綠燈 ，也將因長期打不上比賽 ，狀態受到嚴重影響。
對於11月將滿30歲的武磊來說 ，這可能是他職業生涯唯一有機會衝擊世界杯的關鍵時段 。回國踢球能最大限度確保他順利進入國家隊和征戰世界杯預選賽 ，當然前提是中國隊能進入12強賽——可以說，這次回國參加40強賽 ，對武磊來說，將是與當年加盟西班牙人一樣的人生大考 。”
