5月30日晚，费南返穗當國足大部分成員在蘇州奧體中心分享中、多确定缺關之戰勝利喜悅的席国時候 ，入籍球員費南多正在球隊位於蘇州賽區防疫紅區駐地酒店內默默祝福球隊 。足剩據了解 ，余比比賽結束後不久 ，赛月赛区國足通知全體成員 ，日离費南多因傷將於6月2日離開蘇州賽區 ，疗伤隨後返回廣州療傷 。费南返穗這意味著 ，多确定缺這位邊路攻擊手將缺席40強賽餘下所有比賽。席国
5月28日 ，足剩赴國足訓練現場采訪的余比媒體記者意外地發現 ，入籍球員費南多沒有隨隊參訓 。赛月赛区隨後 ，日离國足主帥李鐵確認，費南多因傷缺席5月30日晚國足與關島隊的比賽 。費南多的名字也因此被排除在國足當場比賽23人參賽名單之外 。
那麽費南多還有機會參加40強賽餘下比賽麽？答案是否定的 。據了解 ，費南多是在27日下午國足分組對抗訓練臨近尾聲時造成腿部肌肉拉傷的。據悉 ，費南多其實是舊傷複發 。一般來說 ，遭遇此類傷勢的球員從治療到康複至少需要幾周時間 。這意味著費南多已無法代表國足參加40強賽餘下4場比賽 。
據了解 ，考慮到本隊人員進入賽場後，與由境外而來的對手成員 、比賽官員 、裁判員近距離接觸 ，國足方麵最終決定將費南多轉移到駐地一處獨立區域，接受隔離。費南多按計劃將於6月2日離隊 ，隨後返回廣州接受治療 。同樣為了確保人員健康安全 ，球隊要求其他所有成員在費南多離隊前 ，不得再與他接觸 。
