李元魁1934年3月15日出生於北京市 ，国足官方1954-1955年期間他隨中國青年隊赴匈牙利留學並參加國際比賽 ，悼念成為新中國第一批海外學習的李元足球運動員；此後 ，他隨中國國家男子足球隊白隊紮根於天津 ，足球指导退役後從事足球教練員工作 ，奔波是呐喊天津足球曆史上的優秀教練 ，成為天津足球的生李奠基人之一 。退居二線後，李元魁成為一名優秀的足球評論員 ，他的足球評論深受全國球迷喜愛 。
球員 、教練 、評論員 ，這三種職業被足球的藤蔓連接起來 ，貫穿了李元魁整個體育人生 。他曾經說過 ，這三個職業很像 ，都需要吃苦的精神，都需要學習的精神，都需要爭上的精神 ，也正是這些精神 ，支撐了他幾十年如一日 ，為足球奔波呐喊 。
