賽後第一時間便有媒體透露，标惹此役德國隊長諾伊爾並未佩戴歐足聯規定的乱德標準隊長（印有尊重字樣respect）袖標 ，而是国险佩戴了比較敏感的彩虹隊長袖標 。來自NTV Nachrichten的遭调報道 ，歐足聯已經對德國足協展開調查 ，虚惊原因是场诺长袖查諾伊爾在對陣葡萄牙的比賽中佩戴了彩虹樣式的隊長袖標 。據悉 ，标惹歐足聯認為諾伊爾比賽期間佩戴的彩虹袖標是一種政治標誌，根據歐足聯的規則這是被禁止的行為 。還有媒體稱 ，德國足協有可能因為諾伊爾的行為而麵臨罰款 。
事實上，彩虹袖標在五大聯賽屢見不鮮，特別是在英超賽場 ，大量球隊的隊長都會選擇佩戴該款隊長袖標，也有不少球員選用彩虹的鞋帶 ，這是對英國人權組織“斯通沃爾”的彩虹（彩虹標誌表示關注LGBT權益 ，也就是女同 、男同 、雙性和變性人權益）鞋帶運動表示支持。
正當外界都為德國隊和諾伊爾捏一把汗時 ，德國國家隊的社交媒體（官方推特）發布消息 ，稱歐足聯對諾伊爾彩虹袖標的調查已經停止。德國國家隊官推表示，這一調查現在已經停止 ，歐足聯認為彩虹袖標被看作是支持多元化的象征 ，因此這並非壞事 。
