首輪以3球完敗在澳大利亞隊腳下後 ，日本中國隊內部對失利進行了全方位總結。个档也正是京媒對中 、日兩隊實力存在的比也巨大差距有了比較清醒的定位 ，中國隊教練組決定在本輪比賽中推出“532”戰陣 ，完败立足防守 。中国在這種情況下，队跟队完上輪未能出場的日本李昂本輪首發出場 ，與張琳芃、个档蔣光太共同搭檔中衛組合 。京媒而上輪表現不佳的中場張稀哲本輪未能首發 ，取代他的是另一位技術型中場球員 ，攻守能力兼備的尹鴻博 。
而日本隊則派出了以海外球員為主的陣容 。開場僅僅2分鍾 ，中國隊便遭遇重創 。主力中衛之一張琳芃在防守過程中不慎造成膝部受傷，他也因此被年輕的隊友朱辰傑替換下場 。
受打法影響 ，中國隊上半時的控球率隻有22% ，而且也沒有射門 ，不過這種放棄進攻的打法對中國隊而言比較務實 。中國隊在上半時大部分時間裏防守比較成功 。
然而 ，日本隊的球員擁有超強的個人能力 。第40分鍾，日本隊伊東純也右路突破中國隊左邊後衛王燊超後，右路起球 ，埋伏在禁區內的大迫勇也機敏捅射打破場上僵局 。中國隊在防守對方此次進攻過程中不可謂不盡力，但無奈對手持續進攻的能力格外突出 。
進入下半時 ，中國隊教練組調兵遣將 ，入籍攻擊手阿蘭 、洛國富和中場球員蒿俊閔、池忠國相繼替補登場 。一係列調整為中國隊帶來了場麵上的改觀 ，但日本隊陣型始終保持得很完整 ，中國隊未能獲得真正的得分機會。從正常比賽來看 ，雖然最終隻有1個球的差距 ，但中國隊仍堪稱完敗，他們無論在整體實力還是在個人能力方麵 ，卻與日本隊不在同一檔次，0比1的比分並不能反映出場麵上巨大的差距 。
兩連敗之後 ，中國隊將於8日離開多哈 ，前往阿聯酋沙迦，備戰10月7日在那裏進行的與越南隊的第3輪比賽 。
