主裁庫尼亞第一時間趕到現場 ，但並沒有向雙方球員出牌 ，VAR裁判奧斯托吉奇同樣沒有在耳機中提醒庫尼亞看錄像回放 。拉菲尼亞口腔內皮膚破損 ，鮮血從他口中流了下來 。拉菲尼亞用“吐血”的方式向主裁抗議 ，但庫尼亞始終拒絕吹罰奧塔門迪 。
如今 ，南美足聯發布了針對裁判組的停哨令 。“委員會分析了奧塔門迪的動作 ，他肘擊對方球員麵部 ，主裁和VAR裁判做出的處理方式被認定為嚴重失職 。”南美足聯發布公告表示 ，“因此 ，委員會決定無限期禁止兩人參與吹罰南美足聯組織的所有賽事 。”南美足聯這則公告隻字不提拉菲尼亞對奧塔門迪的拳擊後腦 ，頗有點拉偏架的感覺。
