曼聯現任執行副主席伍德沃德將在2021年年底離職 ，英媒據英國媒體《鏡報》報道 ，伍德沃德在伍德沃德離任後 ，离职已經退休的后弗或曼聯傳奇人物弗格森爵士在俱樂部中所扮演的角色將會發生大變 。
自2013年退休以來 ，格森更多弗格森一直擔任俱樂部大使和董事 ，承担但有消息稱 ，职责在伍德沃德離開後 ，英媒俱樂部有一些人希望他能發揮更大的伍德沃德作用 。在曼聯決定加入歐洲超級聯賽之前 ，离职並沒有人前去征詢這位傳奇教練的后弗或意見。很顯然，格森更多伍德沃德在這方麵有著更大的承担話語權 ，而為了加入歐洲超級聯賽 ，职责伍德沃德甚至辭去了自己在歐足聯的英媒職位 ，轉而擔任了歐超聯的副主席 。
