今年4月份 ，切爾西和吉魯啟動了續約談判，6月5日 ，切爾西官宣和吉魯續約一年至2022年夏天，吉魯2020/21賽季在31場比賽中打進11球 ，歐冠1/8決賽首回合對馬競打進精彩的倒鉤破門 。
本澤馬因為2015年的“錄像帶”無緣國家隊近六年之久 ，在很多球迷與媒體看來 ，吉魯在法國隊占據主力位置與本澤馬被清洗有很大的關係 ，本屆歐洲杯法國與德國 、葡萄牙同組，法國隊想跨過兩支奪冠熱門球隊有著不小的難度 ，德尚希望本澤馬的回歸為鋒線帶來更多的活力。
