北京時間6月19日，内维难总據《太陽報》報道 ，尔马加裏-內維爾擔心馬奎爾在2020年歐洲杯上究竟還能否登場 ，出场因為這位曼聯隊長已經連續缺席了三獅軍團對陣克羅地亞和蘇格蘭的淘汰兩場比賽 。
盡管賽前大家都認為馬奎爾已經可以出現在對陣蘇格蘭的赛直比賽之中 ，但索思蓋特依然在中後衛的接首位置上選擇了斯通斯與明斯的搭檔 。
內維爾對此發表了自己的内维难总看法 ：“我想如果馬奎爾足夠健康的話 ，他是尔马會首發出戰這場比賽的。”
“他不一定是出场完全健康的 ，隨著比賽繼續進行 ，淘汰這肯定是赛直一個值得英格蘭關注的問題 。”
“如果索思蓋特認為他無法出現在對陣蘇格蘭的接首比賽之中 ，那麽這會給他在接下來的内维难总比賽中能否出場也蒙上陰影 。因為在本屆比賽快要進行到了一半的尔马時候 ，你不可能突然派遣他首發出場 ，出场直接麵對一場淘汰賽。”
