此前，费万切爾西與吉魯完成了續約 ，欧万欧浮而米蘭則希望能以免簽的曝米方式簽下吉魯。最終 ，兰已米蘭做出讓步 ，基本吉鲁同意向切爾西支付一定的谈妥轉會費 。報道稱，费万米蘭將向切爾西支付100萬歐元的欧万欧浮轉會費 ，外加100萬歐元與個人表現掛鉤的曝米獎金。2020-21賽季 ，兰已米蘭在伊布的基本吉鲁帶領下拿到聯賽亞軍 ，贏得了歐冠席位 。但伊布在賽季末受傷 ，且無緣征戰歐洲杯 ，此前米蘭給伊布尋找的替補曼朱也在賽季結束後離隊 ，因此米蘭需要引進吉魯 。
上賽季 ，35歲的吉魯為切爾西出場31次 ，打進11球。
