在擊敗切爾西後，尤文在聯賽中連勝兩場 ，同時在歐冠第三輪還擊敗了澤尼特獲得了勝利。連續四場比賽1-0獲勝極大的提升了尤文的信心 。但是在隨後的三輪意甲聯賽中 ，尤文卻獲得了一平兩負的成績 ，遭遇了三輪不勝 ，而三輪一個積分也讓尤文的積分在意甲滑落至第9位 。
在這種背景下，尤文在歐冠第四輪小組賽迎來了澤尼特的挑戰 ，這場比賽非常關鍵 ，畢竟一旦贏球的話 ，尤文就可以提前鎖定出線資格 ，而且一場勝利也會極大的鼓舞三輪意甲不勝的尤文的士氣 。
尤文開場後就展現了極大的勝利渴望，多次製造有威脅的進攻 ，並最終在比賽第11分鍾就由迪巴拉打入一球。盡管隨後因為烏龍球被追平 ，但是在下半場比賽 ，尤文連續打入三個進球，並最終在主場4-2獲勝 。賽後 ，迪巴拉興奮的表示 ：“我們像一支出色的球隊那樣踢球 ，並取得了一個積極的結果 。我們達成了第一個目標 ，現在我們想要去倫敦 ，拿到小組頭名 。”
而需要指出的是，這場比賽也是尤文本賽季第一次在單場打入四個進球，此前的比賽，尤文最多也就是單場打入三球 。
