北京時間1月12日 ，英國媒體《每日郵報》給出獨家消息 ，福德這家媒體稱曼聯會在本賽季結束前與拉什福德就續約問題展開談判 。续约选择而拉什福德雖然渴望繼續留在曼聯踢球 ，不想但是职业他對於目前在紅魔的處境有些擔憂 ，他不想自己職業生涯的生涯黃金期浪費在曼聯 。
拉什福德在範加爾的黄金提拔下成為了曼聯的主力前鋒，在過去的拉什两难浪费幾個賽季一直發揮出色 。而鑒於其出色的福德發揮 ，曼聯也與其簽訂了一份在2023年夏天到期的续约选择合同，而拉什福德的不想周薪高達20萬英鎊 。
盡管拉什福德與曼聯的职业合同還有18個月到期，但是生涯由於在合同中存在可以優先續約一年的條款 ，因此曼聯高層希望在本賽季結束前與拉什福德談判，黄金看是拉什两难浪费否能激活這一優先續約一年的條款 。
拉什福德是曼聯的青訓球員，對於曼聯他有很深厚的感情 ，他當然渴望繼續留在老特拉福德踢球 。但是英國媒體《每日郵報》卻表示 ，現在的拉什福德對於是否續約曼聯卻心存顧慮 。
首先，拉什福德在新賽季開戰後因為傷病的關係出場時間不多 ，而即使可以踢球，他的的狀態與信心也出現了明顯的下滑 。在周一足總杯對戰維拉的比賽中 ，拉什福德就因為低迷的發揮遭遇了曼聯球迷的炮轟 ，一位球迷說 ：“拉什福德簡直在開玩笑 ，他一個學院出來的看起來好像完全不想在這裏踢球 。”更有球迷表示，拉什福德一直以這種明顯缺乏欲望的狀態比賽，就應該“讓他早點滾蛋” 。
其次 ，曼聯的新任主帥朗尼克也是拉什福德猶豫是否是否續約曼聯的原因。拉什福德對於朗尼克的戰術不適應 ，他不想自己職業生涯的黃金期浪費在朗尼克的手中 。另外 ，從目前曼聯的情況看 ，英超奪冠與歐冠捧杯的難度都非常高 ，而拉什福德希望贏得冠軍的心願與現實不符 ，這也使得拉什福德對於續約曼聯猶豫不決 。
