北京時間5月27日 ，曝齐意大利足球記者羅馬諾消息稱 ，达内齊達內已經決定立即辭去皇馬帥位，决定並將這一決定告知俱樂部主席弗洛倫蒂諾。再次該記者表示 ，辞去在未來幾個小時內 ，皇马皇馬將正式官宣發布齊達內離任的帅位时内消息 。
本賽季 ，官宣皇馬成績不理想 ，曝齐聯賽冠軍被同城死敵馬德裏競技奪得，达内兩支球隊僅相差2分 ，决定歐冠止步於四強 ，再次西班牙超級杯止步於半決賽 ，辞去國王杯輸給了西乙B球隊阿爾科亞諾 ，皇马止步於32強 。帅位时内當然 ，皇馬成績不佳 ，責任並不全是主帥齊達內的 ，畢竟過去一個賽季 ，銀河戰艦遭遇了嚴重的傷病打擊 ，且阿紮爾等主力球員表現極其糟糕 。遺憾的是 ，皇馬主帥齊達內仍遭到外界的口誅筆伐 ，甚至與俱樂部主席弗洛倫蒂諾的關係再次緊張起來 。如此情況下 ，齊達內決定再次離開皇馬 。
