在後麵的一場比賽中 ，荷蘭和烏克蘭上演了一場跌宕起伏的大戲 。橙衣軍團在下半場連入2球 ，但是沒想到烏克蘭隨後在4分鍾內扳平比分 ，最後鬱金香依靠鄧弗裏斯的頭球得分完成絕殺 。在上半場互交白卷的情況下，歐洲杯曆史上首次出現了下半場轟入5球的情況 。荷蘭也取得了08年之後在歐洲杯的首場勝利 ，如果保持這個狀態的話 ，小組出線甚至拿下小組第一都是不成問題的 。
另一邊 ，烏克蘭在08年歐洲杯小組賽首輪獲勝後 ，已經遭遇了正賽6連敗 。盡管最後輸掉了比賽 ，但是舍甫琴科率領的球隊讓人眼前一亮 ，身材高大的烏克蘭不再是一味高舉高打 ，而是更加注重傳控 ，不停走地麵尋找機會，本場比賽的失利更多歸結於後防線的失誤以及大賽經驗不足。
