當地警方稱 ，扎哈中遭劫匪假扮成送快遞人員襲擊了紮哈維的遇抢妻子 ，並攜槍支對其進行威脅 ，劫妻但紮哈維的儿被妻子和孩子都沒有受傷 ，但毫無疑問，受伤他們經曆了暴力和心靈創傷 ，外媒最後嫌疑人攜錢財和現金逃跑 ，扎哈中遭警方接到報警之後用警犬和警用直升機對紮哈維家所在社區進行了大規模的遇抢搜索 。
案發當時，紮哈維和他的隊友前往客場參加埃因霍溫本賽季最後一場荷甲比賽的途中 ，被告知他在阿姆斯特丹的家中遭遇搶劫 ，紮哈維立刻返回了家中 。埃因霍溫隨後也在賽前宣布 ，由於私人原因 ，紮哈維將不參加比賽 。隨後紮哈維也在社交媒體上報了平安，並感謝了球迷的支持 。
