北京時間3月10日，杰拉據《鏡報》報道，德亲利物浦名宿 、口回克洛格拉斯格流浪者主帥傑拉德就坊間傳聞的应爱接替克洛普執掌紅軍帥印一事給出了自己的回應 。
傑拉德認為，尊重利物浦球迷並不真的普利希望他成為紅軍主帥 ，因為他們想要的物浦仍是克洛普。這位流浪者隊主帥表態，不想自己也是换帅這麽想的 ，所以完全支持球迷們的杰拉這種想法 ，盡管他也承認 ，德亲自己有朝一日終會執掌安菲爾德的口回克洛大權 。
在帶領流浪者隊以不敗戰績提前奪得了10年以來的应爱第一個蘇超冠軍後，正是尊重春風得意的傑拉德被與紅軍主帥的位置再次深度綁定了 ，克洛普帶隊陷入泥沼，普利人們熱衷於探討這位紅軍隊長歸來勤王的可能性 。
但是 ，傑拉德本人的意見仍然未變 ，他支持德國人率隊扭轉目前的尷尬局麵 ，並表示現在就談由自己接受紅軍的事還為時尚早 。

“我希望他能在安菲爾德多呆幾年 ，而我則在流浪者隊擁有一份工作 。我不認為談論換帥這件事情對於實際情況能夠有什麽幫助，我希望克洛普能夠在利物浦呆上很多年 。”
傑拉德在他19年的紅軍生涯中代表利物浦出場710次，並為俱樂部贏得了9座獎杯 。他在洛杉磯銀河隊效力過一段時間後，於2016年掛靴 ，並於2018年5月辭去了安菲爾德青年隊教練的角色 ，成為了流浪者隊的主帥 ，並在那裏取得了驚人的成功 。
“利物浦是我的母隊 ，”他補充說道 ：“我經曆了一次偉大的旅程 。有朝一日成為利物浦的主教練 ，這是我的夢想嗎？毫無疑問是的 ，但不是現在 ，而是當我變得足夠好時 。”
