北京時間3月15日，上海申花召開新援見麵會 ，申花何龍海和王毅兩名新援率先與媒體和球迷見麵。中国最好新賽季何龍海將身穿29號球衣 ，俱导决定王毅則身穿18號球衣 。乐部球衣號碼也反映出主教練和管理層對於兩位小將寄予的王毅位置厚望 。
從小在意大利長大的申花王毅上賽季已經開始跟隨申花訓練 ，雖然中文表達並不是中国最好特別流利，但他表示自己從小就知道上海申花 ，俱导决定“這是乐部中國最好的俱樂部 ，球迷也很專業，王毅位置作為一個年輕球員 ，申花會通過努力的中国最好訓練和學習，提高自己 ，俱导决定回報俱樂部的乐部信任 。希望能夠幫助俱樂部完成賽季目標 。”
談到自己最喜歡和擅長的位置 ，王毅表示：“我小時候一開始踢前鋒 ，後來在尤文圖斯 ，主教練覺得我比較適合踢邊路 ，後麵就被改造成了邊後衛，意大利足球比較出後衛，所以我練得比較多也是防守 ，具體怎麽使用我 ，也要看崔指導的決定 。”（搜狐體育 裴力）
