北京時間8月18日 ，中國男足重新在上海集結 ，芃失開始備戰12強賽 。卫或卫都按照計劃 ，右后率先完成中超聯賽的没问A組國腳提前完成集結 ，蘇州賽區相關俱樂部國腳因為聯賽結束比較晚 ，张琳主场战踢中后因而多獲得了一天假期。芃失中國男足將在上海厚湃爾足球公園訓練一周 ，卫或卫都26日從上海出發 ，右后飛赴卡塔爾多哈 ，没问球隊的张琳主场战踢中后前兩場小組賽不出意外 ，也將安排在多哈進行 。芃失
首日的卫或卫都訓練以身體恢複和喚醒訓練為主 ，訓練開始前 ，右后張琳芃接受了記者的没问采訪 。張琳芃介紹說 ，自己18日早上剛剛飛抵上海 ，“利用這段假期 ，陪伴家人，應該說經曆了前期的聯賽 ，身體也非常疲勞。”
談到這次的12強賽，張琳芃表示 ，賽程和以往不太一樣 ，“有可能麵臨長期的封閉，對此我們也有了一定的心理準備 ，這對於我們也是全新的挑戰。”
極端情況下 ，26日從上海出發 ，國足有可能會在西亞訓練和比賽80天左右的時間 ，才能夠返回國內 ，對此張琳芃表示：“80天左右 ，我們很早就知道了 ，每個人都做好了心理準備 ，疫情情況下也是沒有辦法的事情 ，我們還是努力把自己的工作做好 ，去麵對挑戰 。”
對於長期無法陪伴家人的問題，張琳芃表示 ，這兩年的賽會製聯賽 ，自己已經基本習慣了 ，“走到哪裏 ，我一直帶著老婆孩子的照片 ，跑各個客場 ，希望他們能夠鼓勵我，幫助我 ，發揮出最好的水平 。”
這也是張琳芃個人的第二次12強賽 ，作為隊內的老將，張琳芃表示 ：12強賽對於我是新的開始 ，希望跟大家一起去努力 ，不管好壞 ，盡自己最大的努力。
相比上屆12強賽 ，張琳芃認為 ，最大的改變就是疫情 。“疫情條件下 ，改變了很多，以前的比賽有主客場 ，這次我們也失去了主場 ，對手也可能不是在自己的主場比賽 ，這個跟主客場賽製還是不太一樣，我們必須做好心理方麵準備 ，這個更重要 。”
受到傷病的影響 ，國家隊此前右後衛位置上的人員儲備受到比較大的影響 ，唐淼 、明天都缺席了本期集訓 ，對此張琳芃表示自己也做好了踢右後衛的準備 。“這麽多年 ，有時候踢中後衛 ，有時候踢右後衛 ，這方麵沒有太大的問題 。”（搜狐體育 裴力）
