巴托梅烏擔任巴薩主席期間與梅西發生了巨大的巴萨矛盾，梅西的梅西不支持也成為了巴托梅烏下課的主要原因 。拉波爾塔隨後當選巴薩主席，绝境而在當選巴薩主席之初 ，拉波露紧拉波爾塔信誓旦旦地表示要與梅西續約 。尔塔但目前的已面現實是 ，梅西已經成為了自由球員，西媒续约陷入而拉波爾塔此前承諾的續約梅西一事還未能完成。
《阿斯報》的最新消息稱 ，目前巴薩與梅西方麵並沒有就續約展開談判 ，續約談判已經暫時擱置 。這家媒體也分析了其中的原因 ，對於巴薩高層來說 ，西甲聯盟的工資帽製度製約著巴薩續約梅西 。西甲聯盟主席特巴斯強製所有球隊遵守工資帽製度 ，因此在高額年薪續約梅西的情況下 ，巴薩隻能減少其他球員的工資 ，或者清洗球員減少工資支出才可以 。
根據《世界體育報》的消息稱 ，烏姆蒂蒂以及皮亞尼奇都是巴薩清洗的目標 。但是兩人還沒有確定離隊，其中烏姆蒂蒂更是不願意離開 ，他希望在巴薩再次證明自己 。另外在說服球員降薪方麵 ，拉波爾塔也不太順暢 ，巴薩與皮克 、布斯克茨 、阿爾巴 、羅貝托商談降低工資 ，而隻有皮克表現得很配合 。
《阿斯報》表示 ，拉波爾塔因為巴薩工資帽的問題在續約梅西的問題上遇到了巨大的麻煩 ，另外拉波爾塔近期的一係列操作也沒有讓梅西產生信任的做法，拉波爾塔的臉上也第一次流露出了留不下梅西的緊張 。
