貝爾在過去幾年陷入了極大的故意爭議漩渦中 ，屢屢被批對皇馬缺少職業精神 ，疏远在伯納烏混吃等死耗合同 。缺席庆祝而在貝爾缺席皇馬的皇马慶祝活動之後 ，西班牙媒體更是夺冠队友勃然大怒 ，指責威爾士人是西媒在故意與隊友疏遠 。
不過隨後 ，痛骂貝爾在社交媒體上發文澄清 ，故意稱自己之所以缺席慶祝活動 ，疏远是缺席庆祝由於自己遭遇了傷病 ，“非常遺憾 ，我沒能參加今晚的慶祝活動 ，因為我遭遇了一次嚴重的背部痙攣 。但我真的為球隊奪得冠軍感到驕傲！夥計們 ，享受今晚！”
今夏，貝爾與皇馬的合同就將到期 ，而他的經紀人則表示 ，皇馬應該向貝爾好好告別 ，“貝爾配得上俱樂部舉辦一場宏大的告別式 。我們現在還未就未來做出決定 。”
