據《郵報》報道，或留為了穩定局麵 ，曼联曼聯俱樂部考慮讓伍德沃德在辭職後繼續保留一席之地 ，将担並為他提供了顧問的问提角色 ，這意味著那些遇到麻煩的曼聯董事會成員未來依然可以尋求伍德沃德的幫助和支持。《郵報》指出 ，類似的顧問角色對於那些長期任職的俱樂部關鍵員工來說是司空見慣的 。
伍德沃德從2005年就進入曼聯管理層 ，當時他作為摩根大通的高級職員協助了格雷澤家族成功收購曼聯俱樂部 。2012年伍德沃德成為曼聯CEO和執行副主席 。在伍德沃德執掌曼聯期間 ，俱樂部的商業開發有了大幅提升 ，但很多曼聯球迷批評伍德沃德是格雷澤家族的傀儡，隻顧經濟利益，讓曼聯從頂級豪門淪落到目前隻能為前四而戰 。
