比埃爾霍夫表示 ：“我們不能滿足於在16強就被淘汰 。兰失英格蘭是比埃一支可以被擊敗的球隊 ，但他們在比賽中的表現比我們更好 ，這說明我們需要並希望回到世界頂級強隊的行列 。我們不能對自己的表現感到滿意，我們很失望 。我無法對德國處於劣勢而感到高興 ，作為德國國家隊 ，我們有著完全不同的目標。”
比埃爾霍夫接著說 ：“我們想要躋身世界頂級強隊行列 ，這需要滿足多方麵因素。首先是優秀的球員 ，球員不僅要有出色的能力 ，還必須有足夠的經驗，並且在各自的俱樂部中承擔責任 。我們還需要一點殺手的本能 ，如果從字麵上理解 ，那麽就是我們需要一些關鍵的進球終結者 ，我們需要真正的頂級中鋒，這是我希望國家隊未來能夠做到的 。”
德國國家隊上一位世界級中鋒還是克洛澤 ，但在克洛澤退出國家隊之後 ，德國國家隊就一直沒有找到合格的中鋒 。主帥勒夫隻得改用無鋒戰術 ，但在關鍵大賽中 ，沒有頂級前鋒已經成為製約德國國家隊的一大短板 。
比埃爾霍夫希望德國國家隊可以重用年輕球員 ：“這種趨勢已經有一段時間了 。在2014年世界杯上 ，有七八名國家隊球員是2009年U21歐青賽冠軍成員 ，而現在國家隊中隻有一名球員格納布裏 ，他在2017年曾獲得U21歐青賽冠軍 。”
比埃爾霍夫還表示 ：“這些舉措無法在一夜之間取得成效帶來成功 。哈弗茨在本屆歐洲杯取得了進步 ，而基米希和穆西亞拉也同樣如此，我們的年輕球員在邊路有競爭力 。這是一項需要整個德國足壇共同解決的任務，隻靠一兩家俱樂部引進幾名年輕球員是不夠的。從五六歲的孩子開始 ，他們就需要學習更多的技術 ，我們需要改變青年聯賽以及其它比賽的比賽戰術方式 ，這是我們項目未來的重要組成部分 。”
