北京時間4月21日 ，东京队月对阵2020東京奧運會女足分組抽簽儀式在瑞士蘇黎世的奥运國際足聯總部進行。中國女足被分在F組 ，女足與巴西隊、赛程荷蘭隊和讚比亞隊同組 ，中国战巴避開了奧運四冠王 、日首現世界排名第一的西日美國女足 。
根據賽程安排 ，荷兰中國女足將在7月21日16點小組賽首戰巴西隊；7月24日16點小組次輪對陣讚比亞隊 ，东京队月对阵7月27日19點39分 ，奥运小組賽最後一戰麵對荷蘭女足 。女足
本屆奧運會女足賽事將在日本六個城市的赛程七座球場進行 。12支參賽球隊將被分為三個小組 ，中国战巴每組四隊 ，日首這三個小組將被稱為E組 、西日F組和G組以避免與男子賽事混淆 。小組賽階段以單循環賽進行 ，每組的前兩名以及兩個最好成績的第三名共8支隊伍將獲得晉級四分之一決賽的資格 。三輪小組賽將在7月21日 、24日和27日進行 。
自八強戰開始 ，賽事將采取單場淘汰賽的賽製 。1/4決賽計劃在7月30日進行 ，半決賽則是在8月2日踢完 ，8月5日進行銅牌爭奪戰 ，女足最後決賽則會於北京時間8月6日上午10點在東京國立競技場進行 。
