69歲的範加爾則成為了荷蘭下任主帥的熱門人選，而荷蘭媒體給出的消息稱 ，範加爾本人雖然已經宣布退休 ，但是麵對荷蘭隊的帥位他非常感興趣 ，他對於到荷蘭隊執教持開放意見 。需要指出的是 ，其實範加爾也沒有完全退休 ，按照計劃他會在下賽季執教一支荷蘭低級別球隊Telstar隊 。一旦他接受了荷蘭國家隊的帥鞭 ，也會同時在這支低級別球隊負責一些工作 。
需要指出的是，範加爾此前兩次執教荷蘭國家隊 ，第一次執教荷蘭期間 ，並未能帶領荷蘭得到參加2002年世界杯的機會。而第二次執教荷蘭期間 ，範加爾帶隊殺入2014年世界杯的四強 。
