在英國當地時間上周六的当街动粗晚上18:30分左右 ，在北約克郡的納雷斯伯勒隊 ，麥克伯尼在街上遛彎 。一位球迷發現了麥克伯尼 ，隨後打開手機衝著麥克伯尼拍攝起來。在視頻中 ，拍攝者先是喊了麥克伯尼一聲 ，後者隨即走上前來襲擊了對方 。手機掉在了地上 ，麥克伯尼還踩了一腳 ，隨即又開始拳打路人 。
據悉 ，這位被襲擊的男子臉上出現了劃傷 ，同時眼部腫脹 ，但是不需要進入醫院治療 ，僅需要靜養即可 。目前這一視頻在推特上瘋傳 ，而謝菲聯俱樂部也對此發表了聲明 ：“我們已經注意到社交媒體上流傳的視頻 ，目前正在調查 。”
麥克伯尼本賽季在謝菲聯狀態不佳 ，僅打入1個進球 。而這也不是其第一次惹是生非 。在2019年的10月份 ，麥克伯尼因為酒駕被罰款3萬英鎊 。在2020年的時候 ，麥克伯尼曾經在德比大戰中衝著死敵的看台球迷作出淫穢手勢 ，他也被英足總警告。
