北京時間5月30日 ，曝叙敘利亞國家隊即將乘坐阿聯酋航空公司的利亚航班直飛上海浦東國際機場，正式開啟世預賽40強賽之路 。头号但是射手索玛世预赛强赛據報道 ，敘利亞隊內頭號射手索瑪（Omar Al Somah）由於舊傷複發 ，旧伤將不會隨球隊抵達中國參賽 ，缺席加上此前落選的曝叙前亞洲足球先生 、隊內最佳射手卡爾濱，利亚敘利亞此次的头号攻擊力肯定會大打折扣 。
目前效力於沙特阿赫利俱樂部的射手索玛世预赛强赛前鋒索瑪（Omar Al Somah）是本屆世預賽40強賽重啟前的最佳射手 ，在日本隊10比0大勝緬甸隊之前 ，旧伤索瑪以7粒進球領跑射手榜 ，缺席也是曝叙敘利亞隊內的絕對核心 。當地時間5月26日，利亚索瑪在代表阿爾阿赫利參加完倒數第二輪聯賽之後 ，头号當地時間5月27日趕到迪拜與敘利亞國家隊匯合，連續兩天都參加了國家隊的合練，但是當地時間5月28日晚上就傳出消息稱索瑪“有可能再一次受傷了” ，當地時間5月29日又傳出了敘利亞隊的主教練馬魯爾“異常惱火”的消息 ，主要原因就是索瑪受傷完全打亂了馬魯爾的戰術安排 。
當地時間5月30日 ，敘利亞國家隊領隊卡迪爾-卡達格利在接受敘利亞記者采訪的時候，證實索瑪已經受傷 ：“索瑪遭遇了和之前國家隊集訓時同樣的傷勢——肌肉撕裂，很有可能將不會隨國家隊飛往中國 ，而是將重新返回沙特接受治療 。”在當天晚上的訓練中，索瑪也確實沒有出現在訓練場 。
在索瑪受傷之前 ，前亞洲足球先生、隊內最佳射手卡爾濱已經落選 ，如今再加上索瑪受傷缺席 ，球隊的攻擊力顯然會大打折扣 。
