周中歐冠6-3大勝萊比錫紅牛讓人們見識到了曼城主場的斯特進攻威力 ，在此之前他們已經連續3個主場均已5-0的林门比分擊敗對手 ，伊蒂哈德球場儼然就是前抢客隊的墳墓，因此本場和聖徒的攻被聯賽 ，外界都在推測曼城能否打破主場連續至少5球淨勝的脚射紀錄。不過比賽開始後，丑陋吹越城全场仅呈現的斯特卻是另一幅景象 。
曼城全隊的林门狀態都是相當低迷 ，每個球員的前抢腿上似乎都灌了鉛 。在南安普頓的攻被前場壓迫下 ，曼城的脚射傳接球失誤率相當高 ，反倒是丑陋吹越城全场仅聖徒的反擊踢得風生水起 。20分鍾後 ，斯特曼城逐漸站穩腳跟 ，林门但是他們卻很難創造出像樣的機會 。半場結束 ，藍月亮雖然有7腳射門 ，但是竟然沒有一腳射門打中球門門框範圍內 。自從2016-2017賽季以來 ，曼城在主場英超隻有過4次上半場0射正的情況 ，其中有3次就是在對陣聖徒時發生的 。
下半場比賽，情況並沒有多少改觀 。第60分鍾 ，曼城還遭遇了驚魂一刻 。當時沃克後場傳球被斷，隨後他在禁區內趕到阻止聖徒射門的時候被主裁判判罰犯規送給對方點球 ，不過隨後主裁判通過觀看VAR後取消了點球判罰 。情急之下，瓜迪奧拉接連換上了德布勞內 、馬赫雷斯和福登等人 ，但是局麵依舊沒有多大改觀 。比賽的高潮來自於傷停補時第1分鍾 ，德布勞內傳中 ，福登頭球攻門被門將撲出 ，斯特林補射破門，就在全場球迷歡呼沸騰的時候 ，VAR裁定 ，斯特林越位在先進球無效 。從慢鏡頭來看，斯特林幾乎是體毛級越位（大概一個腳掌的位置） ，不過結果還是越位了 ，進球無效。如果當時斯特林沒有搶攻 ，而是留給福登補射，或許是不一樣的結果 。
雖然帶有一絲遺憾 ，但是藍月亮全隊低迷的狀態是本場比賽他們隻能收獲平局的關鍵 。瓜迪奧拉的球隊全場比賽貢獻了16腳射門，但是隻有福登最後時刻的頭球攻門才是唯一的一次射正 。這是2017年3月曼城對陣斯托克城（也是一次）以來的英超單場最低。積分榜上 ，曼城也因為這一場平局被紅軍拉開到了3分 。此外更加恐怖的是 ，曼城接下來將迎來魔鬼賽程 ，歐冠麵對大巴黎 ，英超連續對陣切爾西和利物浦 。在隊內倆中衛以及羅德裏受傷的情況下 ，瓜式曼城得盡快調整狀態了 ，否則後果難以設想 。
