皇家馬德裏對執法上輪聯賽的裁判吃亏梅萊羅-洛佩斯的工作非常不滿，這位裁判執法尺度很嚴 ，不判瘋狂出牌 ，罚上皇馬此役合計有4人吃到黃牌 ，皇马会抗塞爾塔3人被黃牌警告 。已向议盼而莫德裏奇在第80分鍾吃到的西甲黃牌 ，皇馬高層對此提出了抗議。
當時莫德裏奇在禁區前參與防守 ，倒地鏟球先碰到了皮球 ，但由於速度和力量的問題 ，連帶著導致塞爾塔進攻球員塔比亞倒地 。梅萊羅-洛佩斯在莫德裏奇先鏟到球的情況下依然判克羅地亞中場犯規 ，不僅判罰任意球 ，還出示了黃牌 ，理由是 ：莫德裏奇魯莽的撞倒了對方。
而在上半場，巴爾韋德曾經帶球突破被撞倒 ，裁判沒有任何表示 ，齊達內當時憤怒的在場邊抗議 。此後維尼修斯搶斷阿斯帕斯得手 ，隨後準備發動反擊，但主裁判吹罰維尼修斯手球在線 。皇馬認為梅萊羅-洛佩斯的執法就是有意針對自己 ，雙方過去曾經有過積怨 。
2018-2019賽季皇馬對陣皇家社會 ，維尼修斯在一次進攻中突入禁區內形成單刀 ，但被對方門將魯利絆到了右腿 ，主裁判第一時間沒有判罰點球，隨後詢問作為VAR助理的梅萊羅-洛佩斯是否有爭議 ，但梅萊羅-洛佩斯看了2分鍾，給出的答案是“一切OK”沒問題。賽後梅萊羅-洛佩斯的視頻回放介入錯誤以及自己和主裁判的對話被公開，都遭到了馬德裏媒體的痛批 。
皇馬此前在馬德裏德比中就遇到了爭議點球但因為VAR介入後沒有判罰的事情 ，執法主裁埃爾南德斯-埃爾南德斯本身是個巴薩球迷。此外銀河戰艦高層也感覺從去年10月以後 ，球隊就在聯賽中再也沒有獲得過點球 ，可能是被裁判們針對 。未來賽季衝刺期即將打響，皇馬先提出抗議 ，做一波公關工作。
