At a Television Critics Association panel on Jan 14., show creator Bruce Miller revealed that the writers foresaw Trump's MAGA campaign slogan before it became seared into our unwilling brains during the 2016 presidential campaign. 。
When asked about whether or not the show ever had to do rewrites because of the events in the news, Miller said: "We had a few things in Season 1. We said 'Make America Great Again' in a scene long before the primaries even started. So we had to change that line." 。

Miller went on to say that, in the upcoming Season 2, "we've already had things where we thought about them, shot them, then put them in episodes — only to see the exact same images [in the news] on the television." 。
