北京時間4月24日 ，魔竞弥补根據《每日郵報》的购英格兰国脚獨家報道 ，曼城今夏將於曼聯競爭西漢姆聯的费鸟核心賴斯，藍月軍團想彌補今夏離隊的离队費爾南迪尼奧離隊後的中場空缺 。報道稱，空缺曼城將加入到夏季爭奪西漢姆聯隊價值1億英鎊的魔竞弥补英格蘭明星中場賴斯的行列 ，作為對滕哈格執教曼聯的购英格兰国脚早期回擊 。
曼城最近幾年先後與曼聯競爭過桑切斯和C羅 ，费鸟曼城高層已經準備好了在轉會市場上支持瓜迪奧拉 。离队雖然曼城已經與哈蘭德達成了加盟協議 ，空缺但是魔竞弥补曼城的老板們已經明確表示 ，在隊長費爾南迪尼奧離開之後 ，购英格兰国脚他們也會追逐賴斯，费鸟以彌補留下的离队一個中場空缺 。
曼城在過去一年的空缺淨支出隻有3700萬英鎊 ，雖然去年夏天創紀錄的簽下了格拉利什，不過費蘭-托雷斯 、哈裏森和安赫利尼奧的出售抵消了部分轉會費 ，這也給了曼城一個巨大的財政優勢 。同時，曼聯也想要圍繞賴斯建立一個新的球隊 ，但是如果無緣歐冠席位的話 ，預算將受到限製。
此外，對於賴斯來說 ，在瓜迪奧拉麾下踢球對於挑戰冠軍獎杯的前景 ，可是比幫助重建的俱樂部更具吸引力 。據悉 ，曼城已經知曉了賴斯未來的計劃 ，並且明確表示這是一個可行的目的地。
