本場比賽的現場轉播鏡頭多次給到坐在替補席上的奧巴梅揚 ，雖然他戴上了口罩，但還是能夠看出他的情緒很低落 。雖然在下半場奧巴梅揚一度在場邊進行熱身 ，但是阿爾特塔還是沒有將奧巴梅揚換上場 ，而是選擇將最後一個換人名額給了埃爾內尼 ，最終阿森納也如願以償全取三分 。
阿爾特塔在賽後接受采訪時談到他處罰奧巴梅揚的決定 ，阿爾特塔表示 ：“我做出了我認為是正確的決定 。我們在這方麵劃了一條線 。我們知道奧巴梅揚對俱樂部有多重要 。問題已經解決了，讓我們繼續前進吧。”
值得一提的是 ，阿爾特塔之前也曾對其他球員做出過一些處罰決定 ，比如威廉此前曾因在疫情封鎖期間擅自前往迪拜而違反了俱樂部規定而受到處罰。
