“亨德森的傷情問題已解決 ，他目前正在訓練，而我的病也好了 ，正在和隊友們一起為接下來的比賽做準備 。英格蘭是一支龐大的球隊 ，這裏擁有26名球員 ，其中很多人都是第一次參加這種大型國際賽事 。但是隻有在這種國際大型賽事裏，球員們在贏得比賽時可以贏得全世界的矚目 。我會參加比賽，為贏得勝利做出貢獻 。前兩輪比賽 ，我的隊友們讓英格蘭在小組裏擁有了一個不錯的排名 ，而我要將這個勝利的勢頭繼續保持下去 。”
馬奎爾堅稱自己可以參加D組最後一場對陣捷克的比賽 。他談道 ：“受傷讓我很沮喪 ，但是我正在竭盡全力的恢複健康 ，重新開始訓練用以找回踢球的狀態 。康複過程是很艱難的 ，可我是一位球員 ，這是我的工作 ，我會為訓練做好準備。”
“獨自一人恢複訓練時 ，很難受 ，但是現在我回來和小夥子們一起訓練，一起控球 ，這感覺真是太棒了 。隊內一起訓練時會用五人製比賽的方式 ，這對我的防守硬度和回追速度都有好處。現在我感覺我的踢球狀態越來越棒，自己也愈發自信 ，我覺得我準備好為英格蘭出戰了。”
關於出場陣容 ，馬奎爾直言 ：“我和斯通斯踢球的地方相距不遠 ，曾經在青年隊的賽事中就認識了 ，我們互相了解 ，是很好的朋友 。斯通斯在曼城度過了一個很棒的賽季 ，他將這種頂尖的競技狀態帶入了歐洲杯 。而我在三年前的世界杯上曾與他完美合作過 ，希望現在球隊能重新啟用這套中後衛陣容 。”
