國際足聯的提議以及因凡蒂諾的言論立即引起了業內的不滿 。《德新社》稱 ，為了抵製兩年一屆世界杯，歐洲的十多個協會成員考慮退出國際足聯 。消息稱，他們考慮將終止自己國際足聯成員資格作為最後的抵製措施 。世界杯改製的提議受到歐洲和南美洲的強烈抗議 。最近，丹麥、瑞典 、挪威 、芬蘭和冰島等國家組成的北歐協會就公開發表聯合聲明 ，以抵製世界杯改製。丹麥足協表示 ，在最糟糕的情況下 ，不排除退出國際足聯以示抗議的可能性。
