紐卡斯爾在冬季轉會期大肆引援，纽卡纳求希望補強陣容完成保級目標。希望目前紐卡斯爾想要租借在阿森納淪為替補的租借制买德國門將萊諾 ，而阿森納則要求紐卡斯爾加入保級成功後強製買斷球員的莱诺條款。
29歲的阿森萊諾在2018年夏天轉會加盟阿森納 ，過去幾個賽季他一直是保级球隊的主力門將。但本賽季阿森納簽下了英格蘭國門拉姆斯代爾 ，后强萊諾則失去了主力位置 ，纽卡纳求本賽季他隻在英超首發3次 ，希望之後隻能參加聯賽杯和足總杯 。租借制买而本周中阿森納對利物浦的莱诺聯賽杯半決賽次回合 ，阿森納主帥阿爾特塔安排拉姆斯代爾首發 ，阿森萊諾知道自己離開阿森納的保级時間到了。

萊諾和阿森納的合同還剩一年半到期 ，但萊諾並不想現在就把自己和紐卡斯爾長期綁定在一起 ，他更願意在冬季轉會期找到一個短期方案，等到本賽季結束後再尋找更合適的選擇 。
