在比賽進行至第58分鍾的時候 ，把博格巴前場放倒了凱塔 ，裁判向其出示黃牌警告 。對於這樣一個判罰 ，利物浦球員並沒有太多的不滿 ，不過隨後VAR視頻助理裁判提醒主裁 ，這是一個紅牌動作。隨後當值主裁來到場邊回看VAR視頻回放 ，確認博格巴有雙腳抬腿蹬踏的動作。的確 ，在放鏟的時候，博格巴雙腳離開地麵 ，並沒有任何一個回收的動作，因此裁判在看完VAR視頻回放後，直接將黃牌改成了紅牌，曼聯無奈的要以10人應戰 。
的確 ，就在博格巴被罰下場之後 ，利物浦隊醫對凱塔進行緊急處理 。最終，凱塔也是因此無法堅持比賽 ，被擔架抬出場外。這也能從另一個側麵顯示博格巴此前的那個動作是有多麽的危險 。
其實全場比賽 ，不僅僅是博格巴 ，曼聯其他球員也是一樣有些急躁。根據賽後的技術統計 ，曼聯全場比賽一共吃到了6張黃牌，C羅在上半場臨近結束的時候連續踢瓊斯 ，裁判也是手下留情給了一張黃牌。弗雷德也在搶斷時抬腳過高，最終被黃牌警告 。反觀利物浦 ，他們全場比賽一張紅黃牌都沒有 ，也就是說，這場萬眾矚目的雙紅會，曼聯可謂是輸球又輸人 。
