北京時間5月1日21:00 ，孙兴英超第35輪一場焦點戰展開爭奪 ，慜创熱刺主場3-1戰勝萊斯特城 ，个人孫興慜助攻凱恩進球後梅開二度 。单赛孫興慜下半場先是季进脚世界波技惊左腳轉射抽射破門 ，隨後更是球纪左腳奉獻世界波。
這記世界波是录左孫興慜用非慣用腳打進的 。據統計，孙兴孫興慜本賽季已經在英超用左腳打進11粒進球 ，慜创這是个人聯賽曆史上第二位逆足打進至少10球的右腳球員 ，上一位正是单赛自己的熱刺隊友凱恩在2017/18賽季打進的10球。
據統計 ，季进脚世界波技惊孫興慜本賽季已經取得19粒英超進球 ，球纪創造了個人英超生涯單賽季進球紀錄 。录左此前孫興慜的孙兴單賽季最多進球紀錄為上賽季的17粒進球。而且孫興慜的19粒進球當中沒有點球 ，若拋開點球計算 ，孫興慜目前就是英超本賽季的射手榜第一 。
孫興慜全場比賽貢獻2進球1助攻4次關鍵傳球 ，評分9.2全場最高 。賽後英超聯賽官方宣布 ，孫興慜當選本場比賽全場最佳球員 。在這場比賽後 ，孫興慜正式超越韓國傳奇車範根成為五大聯賽單賽季聯賽進球數最多的韓國球員 。此前車範根在1985/86賽季曾代表勒沃庫森在聯賽中轟入17球 。
