法國隊雖然輸了比賽，但是他們的表現同樣值得點讚。在決賽裏 ，他們兩度落後又兩度追平 ，甚至在加時賽的最後一分鍾 ，他們都擁有絕殺比賽的機會 。可惜穆阿尼近距離的單刀射門被阿根廷隊的門將馬丁內斯用腿擋出 ，法國人衛冕的夢想 ，也隨著這次單刀不進而隨之化為了泡影 。
作為法國隊的支持者之一 ，法國總統馬克龍也親臨盧塞爾球場 ，觀看了這場萬眾矚目的對決 。可惜的是 ，他沒能看到球隊再一次捧起金杯 ，而是稍顯遺憾地倒在了十二碼點。但是對於球隊的表現 ，馬克龍還是非常滿意 ，特別是對於主教練德尚 ，他更是青睞有加。在賽後接受法國媒體《RMC》采訪時 ，馬克龍就談到 ：“我們輸掉了一場關鍵的比賽，最終一無所獲 ，但這就是足球 。上半場我們還落後很多 ，下半場我們通過不懈努力追了回來 ，但還是很遺憾地在點球落敗 。我已經告訴法國隊主帥德尚 ，我要求他繼續留在帥位上 ，盡快消化這次失利的教訓 ，然後率領球隊走出低迷 ！”
而在此之前，法國很多媒體都曾爆料 ，法國足協準備在世界杯後換掉德尚 ，轉而聘請執教履曆更好也更年輕的齊達內來執掌球隊 ，而齊達內為了接班德尚 ，已經足足等了近兩年的時間 ，在離開皇馬的帥位後，多家豪門都向他拋去過橄欖枝 ，大巴黎還為他開出了令人難以想象的天價合約 。但最終齊達內都選擇了拒絕 ，因為他的夢想 ，就是率領法國隊捧起大力神杯 。
如今法國總統都發話了 ，那德尚的帥位應該是不會再有什麽變動了 ，法國足協的換帥計劃算是徹底泡湯了 ，齊達內兩年的等待 ，最終也是錯付了。而德尚留任 ，也讓法國球星本澤馬的未來變得有些不確定了 。
