上一場麵對世界杯冠軍法國隊 ，班牙佐默令人叫絕的佐默神奇撲救和點球大戰中撲出姆巴佩點球淘汰對手。1/4決賽與又一奪冠熱門西班牙的延续又创比賽 ，佐默延續了出色的米巨狀態 ，差一點讓西班牙人也出了洋相 。人门
麵對西班牙全場狂轟濫炸般的将难纪录28腳射門 ，身高僅1.83米但異常靈活的煞西神奇佐默120分鍾時間裏從未真正輸過。莫拉塔 、班牙莫雷諾們的佐默射門多次無功而返 ，而唯一的延续又创丟球還是隊友紮卡裏亞的烏龍 。
佐默已經做到了自己能做的米巨一切 ，要不是他八爪魚般的存在，瑞士連比賽進入加時的機會都沒有 。好不容易掙紮著進了加時賽 ，佐默更加忙碌也更加瘋狂 。阿爾瓦禁區外的抽射被他單掌擋出 。奧亞薩瓦爾的兜射被他飛身撲出底線 。奧爾默中路包抄被他搶先一步抱住。布斯克茨的甩頭攻門被他候個正著 。莫雷諾的低射被他沒收。賽後佐默交出的令人咋舌的數據 ，全場比賽多達10次撲救 ，撲救次數上雙 ！
單場10次撲救是本屆歐洲杯所有門將的新高 。佐默不單是本場表現出色 ，他出場的5場比賽共有21次撲救 ，其中有16腳射門在禁區裏 ，這兩個數字都是本屆歐洲杯最多 。說佐默是本屆賽事表現最佳的門將並不為過，他做到了能為瑞士所做的一切 ，瑞士隊八強的成績創造曆史也可以說是他一人功勞 。
和隊友一起竭盡全力，佐默超水平發揮，終於把比賽拖進了瑞士最後也是唯一的機會——點球大戰 。盡管點球大戰佐默撲出了羅德裏的點球 ，但隊友連續踢丟3個 、4射僅1中的數據最終還是讓瑞士倒在了半決賽門口 。英格蘭名宿萊因克爾賽後稱讚佐默是夏天（佐默的姓德語含義是夏天）閃耀的最後光芒，可惜這縷光芒力量太過單薄不夠照亮瑞士的前路 。
歐足聯本場比賽把最佳球員給了西班牙門將烏奈·西蒙 ，卻被不少球迷質疑評選的合理性。雖然西蒙表現出色並且撲出了2個點球 ，但論及全場表現 ，無疑佐默更勝一籌 。西蒙本人賽後也很誠懇 ：“我更願意將全場MVP頒給佐默 。”雖然輸了比賽 ，但得到了對手的肯定 ，是對佐默最大的褒獎。
