隨後索斯蓋特表示 ：“失敗帶來的自己自豪痛苦是巨大的，我想這對於這個國家來說是一個特別的夜晚 ，我們隻差最後一點點 。世界杯感覺在100萬英裏之外 ，但是這支球隊可以做得更好 ，有更大的提高。大多的青年球員充滿熱血，他們太棒了 。未來我們還需要反思 。”
而索斯蓋特認為，英格蘭隊是在俄羅斯世界杯中打下了一個強大的班底 ，隨後在本屆歐洲杯中繼續保持戰鬥力 。“我認為我們在俄羅斯世界杯中建立了牢固的紐帶 ，而且也在本屆歐洲杯中顯示了出來 。但今晚對於我們每個人來說都很難接受 。”
