荷蘭隊在歐洲杯1/8決賽即被捷克爆冷淘汰之後，主帥德波爾引咎辭職。多国在新帥的脚不加人選上，老帥範加爾本是满范荷蘭足協的第一人選 ，甚至有媒體傳出雙方下周就有可能簽約的执教中消息 。但如今《鏡報》爆料稱 ，范迪包括範迪克在內的曝荷諸多荷蘭國腳反對範加爾入主鬱金香軍團。
69歲的多国範加爾如今已經過上了退休的生活 。然而就在其70歲大壽前的脚不加幾周 ，由於德波爾的满范下課 ，範加爾動了再度出山的执教中念頭 ，入主荷蘭隊收拾德波爾留下的范迪爛攤子 。據悉，曝荷範加爾如今需要解決一些稅務上的多国麻煩，而一旦問題解決 ，脚不加荷蘭老帥就將時隔5年之後再度出山。
不過《鏡報》表示 ，有數名頂級球星曾向荷蘭足協請求不要讓範加爾回歸 ，但荷蘭足協的管理層們並沒有采納球員們的意見 。有諸多荷蘭國腳對於範加爾的回歸表示極度不滿 ，利物浦中衛範迪克就是其中一員 。而範迪克和副隊長維納爾杜姆心中的新帥人選是滕卡特，這一想法也得到了其他球員的支持 。
而對於當前的這支荷蘭隊 ，範加爾實際上也很不滿意。《鏡報》透露 ，範加爾曾對正備戰奧運會的荷蘭女足表示 ：“男足陣中存在著一大票所謂的球星 。”而對於重新執掌荷蘭隊 ，範加爾明確指出自己需要有絕對的權力 ，從教練到新聞官都需要自己來指定 。
而在荷蘭足協內部 ，也有人對聘請範加爾不解 ，“範加爾的紀錄是什麽 ？在過去的三份重大工作中 ，他都被解雇了 ，在曼聯 、拜仁和巴薩 。”
